This project is part of Gisborne District Council's recovery programme of works following the damage caused by Cyclone Gabrielle.

GDC requires a Contractor who has the expertise, experience and resources to construct the replacement Huiarua (Mata) Bridge. The Contract Works includes:
- Construction of the bridge - a two-span bridge with twin weathering steel girders made composite with a reinforced concrete deck, 70m in length and 4.22m wide, providing for a single 3.5m wide lane of traffic. The girders will be supported on a reinforced concrete pier head and abutment beams, which in turn are supported on a pair of reinforced concrete piles.
- Reinstatement of Mata Road and associated civil works - including earthworks, pavement, surfacing (sealing), stormwater drainage, barriers, signage, and miscellaneous ancillary works.
