This project involves eradication of feral goats from the Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park, north of State Highway 29.
Feral goats have been present in the Kaimai Mamaku Conservation Park since the late 19th century and have been controlled by government agencies to a greater or lesser amount extent since about 1940. However, feral goats continue to persist in low numbers.
The project is a collaborative effort involving the Manaaki Kaimai Mamaku Trust (MKMT), Iwi and Hapū, the Bay of Plenty and Waikato Regional Councils, and the Department of Conservation working together on conservation efforts in the Kaimai Mamaku Restoration Project area.
