The Department of Conservation (DOC) has a future procurement opportunity for the reconfiguration of the Lake Matheson Carpark. Lake Matheson is a well-known Icon Destination in South Westland which receives over 100,000 visitors annually. The carpark is currently over capacity at peak times with increasing tourist numbers coming to New Zealand.
The work will involve
1. Improved formation of the existing bus parking area to provide additional 43 car parks and total 3 bus parks including drainage.
2. Construct a new accessway to the car parks starting on the east side of the existing disabled parking.
3. Construct a new pedestrian path alongside bus parks and from car parks to existing path.
4. Construct kerbing and wheel stops as required.
5. Apply line markings, signage and garden beds as required
6. Decommission and remove wastewater treatment system driplines, install and commission new driplines and connection points in accordance with Wastewater disposal and irrigation plan.
The project is addressing a safety issue with urgency and the Department encourages suppliers who have prior experience undertaking earthworks and roadworks to register their interest.
We are anticipating going to market for a main contractor in the week of 8 September 2025. We are expecting physical works to start by November 2025.
RFx Documents and details will be notified to the interested suppliers via GETS.
DOC is not taking questions at this time. Future Procurement Opportunities are to advise the market of potential upcoming opportunities which may or may not be progressed. If the project is progressed, you will be notified. Any further information about this opportunity will be available on GETS if/when we go to market.
