Overview

To protect our native wildlife the Department of Conservation (DOC) has implemented the “Battle for our Birds” (BfoB) pest control programme. The key objectives of the programme are to:
 - prevent any local extinction of the most vulnerable species;
 - minimise predator damage to our most valuable ecosystems; and
 - improve efficacy and efficiency of pest management to control rodents, mustelids and possums.

The objectives of this tender are to:
 - create a nationwide panel of appropriately experienced, qualified and accredited helicopter operators who can compete for scheduled operations as and when required;
 - extend the panel contract model that has worked well in the South Island to include experienced North Island operators and any appropriately experienced South Island operators who have not historically provided these services directly to the Department.
