This project focuses on the characterisation of offal management practices on both longline and trawl vessels <28m, and assess the practicalities of refinements to these. The project will aim to compile and utilise existing information on offal management practices using data sources such as observer data and diaries, commercial fishing data, international literature, published and grey literature and selected fisher interviews.
Project Objectives :
1. To characterise offal management strategies for trawl and longline vessels <28m, both domestically and internationally.
2. To analyse these practices against protected species abundance and bycatch.
3. To provide recommendations on best practice offal management.
