The Department of Conservation maintains a network of over 1000 double set DOC150 traps along rivers and streams in the Wangapeka/Fyfe Whio Security Site to protect whio/blue duck from predators, particularly mustelids.
Traps are checked and re-baited monthly between August and May. The Department requires a Contractor to service (check and re-bait) and maintain approximately 624 of the double set DOC150 traps in the network between December 2015 and May 2016. This will require six trap check visits (one per month) to clear and re-bait each of the traps. The Wangapeka/Fyfe Whio Security Site is part of Kahurangi National Park and is located approximately 60 km SW of Motueka.
