Reefton is experiencing consistent economic growth across sectors such as mining, tourism, dairy, distilling, and services. Recent advancements in mining techniques, along with the discovery of Antimony, have attracted significant offshore investment and are driving expanded mining operations in the area. This growth is increasing demand for accommodation in the area, for both workers and visitors.
To contribute to the immediate accommodation needs for the additional mining staff in the area, and to therefore provide for future opportunities to support tourism in the area, the construction of four double and two single cabins is planned at the Reefton Campground, located within the Reefton Recreation Reserve.
This procurement will seek to secure a building contractor to construct and install the cabins on site. Additional works are expected to include installation of all electrical, plumbing and drainage services within the cabins and all necessary connections to the existing site services, carpark installation, landscaping and the internal fitting out of the fixtures and furnishings within the units.
A high level of resilience is expected for the units, to minimise ongoing operations and maintenance costs.
The budget for the project is expected to be in the region of $800,000 to $1,100,000.
We expect to launch tender documentation in late January, with a submission date planned in late February. It is hoped that the successful contractor will be able to start work promptly, enabling installation of the cabins before the winter season.
