Overview

The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is for ACC to gain a detailed understanding of the supplier market for surgical implants.

Surgery is provided to ACC Clients who have a covered personal injury which requires surgical treatment to meet their rehabilitation outcomes. ACC purchases surgical treatment undertaken by Medical specialists in surgical theatres (e.g. hospitals) through the ACC Elective Surgery contract. ACC spends $333 million annually on this contract. Surgical implants are often required as part of the surgical treatments and make up $51million of the annual cost of the ACC Elective Surgery contract.

Currently ACC does not have direct supply arrangements with vendors of surgical implants and does not directly purchase any surgical implants. Under the current funding state, ACC reimburses suppliers of surgical treatments (i.e. hospitals), for surgical implants used, at the cost price.
ACC is aware that prices of surgical implants vary within the market and wishes to explore opportunities for competitive pricing (e.g. contract prices) for surgical implants by way of direct supply arrangements with surgical implant vendors.
ACC is collecting pricing and non-pricing information from surgical implant vendors. Only surgical implant vendors supplying to at least one of the listed hospitals, for ACC clients (to the best of knowledge), should respond to this RFI.
