Overview

PURPOSE OF THE RFI

We are interested in information that identifies options for future purchasing of Sports Concussion Services. This Request for Information (RFI) has the following purposes:
- To identify capability and capacity of existing Sports Physicians to provide Sports Concussion Services
- To identify potential locations for Sports Concussion Services

This RFI is not a procurement process. It is intended to provide information to ACC about the potential scalability of an existing pilot by identifying potential market participants.

THIS OPPORTUNITY IN A NUTSHELL

What we need

ACC has been piloting a Sports Concussion Centre of Excellence based in the Auckland region.

The purpose of a Sports Concussion Centre of Excellence is to:
- Improve early diagnosis and management of concussion in sports people (not elite athletes); including differential diagnosis.
- Meet a need in the market that may not otherwise be met for assessment, diagnosis and management of suspected sports concussion of people referred following a NZ Rugby Union ‘blue card’ or other sports people who do not usually access primary care services and who are at high risk of re-injury should they not seek medical care.
- Provide an approach that supports an end-to-end service providing more active rehabilitation and monitoring including self-reported outcomes.
- Enable easy referral or advice from experts to primary care.

An evaluation of the pilot is underway; however, early monitoring suggests the Sports Concussion Centre of Excellence is producing excellent results prompting ACC to gather information about scalability of this initiative.

ACC intends on making a decision as to the purchase of future similar services in 2018.
