The existing asbestos cement sewer at Akatarawa Road being replaced is ageing, and in poor condition. Roots have entered the pipes at deteriorated pipe joints, and some pipes have cracks in them allowing groundwater to enter the sewer. This poor condition has increased the risk of wastewater flooding above ground level during times of high flow, which has been reported in this vicinity in the past. The scope of works are as follows:
1. Renewal of Upper Hutt River Trail Section
The wastewater pipe in this segment (175m length of new DN225 PE100 wastewater pipe) is to be renewed by open trenching within private properties and the Upper Hutt River Trail track.
2. Renewal of South of Bridge Section
The wastewater pipe in this segment (55m length of new DN225 PE100 wastewater pipe) is to be renewed by pipe bursting.
