Emergency Ground Water Bores - Phase 2 (Contract No. xxxx)

Details

A significant earthquake in the region will result in damage to the potable water network. This may mean parts of the region are without water for 100 days or more. The potable water network must be systematically restored from water source to customer boundary. To improve the speed of restoration of this network is through significant long-term investment in upgrades and renewals. Until this investment is completed, there is a continued risk that parts of the region could be without water for some time following a significant earthquake.

The ‘Community Infrastructure Resilience’ project was initiated to provide emergency water for the Wellington Region following a major earthquake. The objective of this project is to provide 20L per person per day within 1000 m of their residence. This will be achieved by:·

- Small, distributed water sources capable of continuous supply of small quantities of potable water.
- A distribution network with tap stands that dramatically improves access to water collection points.
- One of the water sources under investigation is the provision of 1-2L per second from groundwater bores.
