Overview

1. Wellington Cable Car Limited (WCCL) is a Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) owned by Wellington City Council. As well as operating the Cable Car, WCCL also operates and maintains Wellington's DC Overhead Electrical Network on behalf of Greater Wellington Regional Council. The 550V DC electrical network covers 55 Km of road and has 80 Km of track within Wellington.

2. WCCL has successfully developed a prototype electrical fault protection cabinet that provides short circuit, overcurrent and earth fault protection for sections of the network. The prototype cabinet has successfully operated since March 2014 in Kilbirnie adjacent to the Bus Depot and has provided the basis for a productionised version of the protection cabinet that may be installed across other network sections.

3. The project is still subject to business case approval but it is anticipated that a decision will be received in the next 3 weeks (target date 22 August 2014). Pending approval, the intention would then be to tender for the manufacture, assembly, supply and in-service support of the protection cabinets. Installation would be undertaken jointly between WCCL and the supplier.

4. Registrations of interest are requested from suitably qualified, competent and experienced companies that would be interested in the manufacture, assembly, supply and in-service support of the protection cabinets (exact number yet to be determined) in advance of formal tender action.
