Overview

The Whanganui District Health Board is seeking to appoint a provider of radiologist services. This includes the delivery of remote radiology reporting based on volumes, on call cover, telephone consultations and advice to referrers. There is also some on site attendance required 2 days per fortnight, increasing to 2 days a week during periods of radiologist leave or in the event that the service provider is delivering 100% of volumes. When on site the key responsibilities will include radiology reporting and the following: peer review, sub-specialist opinions, audit and education sessions to manage demand, triaging referrals and providing support to the MRT's.

The Whanganui District Health Board radiology department is IANZ accredited, has a full time consultant and is currently supported by a contracted radiology provider. The current contract for radiology reporting and on site services has been extended to 30 September 2015 and we have issued a request for proposal in response to the pending expiry of this contract.

The radiology department at Whanganui District Health Board conducts approximately 47,500 examinations per annum in a provincial secondary level hospital equipped with comprehensive surgical services and a full range of diagnostic facilities on site. This includes a 1.5T MRI scanner, CT, ultrasound and general radiology including fluoroscopy. The contract provider is expected to deliver a range of sub specialities and reporting of volumes. The RFP seeks a response at two levels: radiologist reporting of approximately 65% of the total annual volumes and 100% of the total annual volumes. It is possible that a local provider and an international joint venture partner could deliver the requirements of the contract subject to medical council accreditation.

Term of the contract 5 years with a right of renewal for a further 5 years. Given the term of the contract we have requested a response to this RFP for radiologist services based on the delivery of approximately 65% of annual volumes and 100% of annual volumes.
