Overview
The West Coast Regional Councils business unit Vector Control Services undertakes Ground possum control under contract to OSPRI. This work is planned for under the New Zealand National Policy Direction for Pest Management and aims to eradicate Bovine Tuberculosis (TB), an infectious disease which affects cattle herds. In New Zealand, possums are the main carrier and spreader of TB to livestock. To protect the value and quality of New Zealand’s cattle and deer farming industries, OSPRI manage a TB free programme which plans to eradicate TB from possums by 2040.
