Kerbside Waste and Recycling Collection Services
Wellington City Council (WCC) anticipates undertaking a procurement process for the delivery of kerbside waste and recycling collection services across Wellington City.
This procurement is expected to replace existing contracts due to expire from June 2028 onwards and represents a significant long-term service opportunity.
Council will be holding a supplier briefing to provide an overview of the opportunity, procurement approach, and indicative requirements. Suppliers interested in attending are invited to register by emailing BUSprocurement@wcc.govt.nz no later than Friday 17 July 2026. Details of the briefing, including the date, time and venue, will be provided to registered suppliers.
The future services will include:
Kerbside refuse collection
Kerbside commingled recycling collection
Kerbside glass collection
This procurement is being undertaken within a constrained timeframe, particularly due to the lead times associated with procuring collection fleet. Suppliers should note that the ability to mobilise services, including fleet procurement and deployment, will be a key consideration.
Indicative procurement timeline:
Supplier briefing: July 2026
Request for Proposal (RFP) anticipated: late August to early September 2026
Contract award: late 2026
Service commencement: from July 2028 (aligned with existing contract expiries)
This notice is provided for advance information only. Further details will be released via GETS. Suppliers interested in this opportunity are encouraged to register for the supplier briefing by emailing BUSprocurement@wcc.govt.nz and to monitor GETS for further updates.
