Overview

In August 2020, the Council adopted a new Parking Policy for Wellington. The new Parking Policy reflects the Council’s vision for Wellington, it is built around people and communities. The future city will be a place where people and goods can easily move to and through the city, based on a transport system that can accommodate moving more people using fewer vehicles.
To support the progressive implementation of the parking policy we need flexible on-street parking solutions that are easily able to adapt to ongoing changes. Our vision for the future of on-street parking management is one that:
• Supports the progressive implementation of the Council parking policy
• Provides a significantly improved experience for Council parking customers through more effective systems that will provide real time information to customers and will allow for customers to more easily connect and interact with the Council’s parking system
• Provides technology that allows for and adapts to a dynamically changing on-street environment in a quick and efficient way and provides for several charging approaches and payment options
• Allows the Parking activity to increase its visibility without increasing staff numbers and helps to ensure that services are delivered consistently with increased coverage across the city and suburbs
• Improves the overall Health and Safety of the Council’s parking staff
