Overview

The Seatoun Wharf was constructed by the Seatoun Roads Board in 1901 and was architecturally designed by James Edward Fulton. Over the years since the wharf original construction, there has been multiple repairs and modifications to the structure. These include major pile repairs in 1966 and some minor additional repairs in 2004.The wharf is a structure predominately made of hardwood timber. The structure comprises a long narrow jetty that widens at its end into a large rectangular structure used as a landing for both recreational and commercial vessels.

The scope of the Contract Works include (but are not necessarily limited to):
• New underpinning steel driven piles on the main wharf platform.
• Replacement of the upper section of the existing timber piles with new timber pile sections and fibre reinforced polymer splices.
• Replacement of timber bearers, joists and bracing.
• Replacement of all deck planks.
• Replacement of timber stairs
• New fenders, ladders, connections and fixings.
The refurbishment works will repair Seatoun Wharf on a like for like basis by replacing degraded members and connections to extend the remaining life of the structure. It is not intended to significantly improve the performance of the structure due to heritage considerations. The wharf will be disassembled to allow works to be carried out. The work is to be undertaken within the guidelines of the resource consent.
