Under the Burial and Cremations Act 1964 Wellington City Council has statutory responsibilities and functions to provide for burials and manage cemeteries - including the recording of all burials and cremations.
The Council uses a Cemetery Management System (CMS) to manage bookings and maintain records relating to Wellington City cemeteries and crematorium. The current CMS is used by a number of cemetery staff, who are responsible for entering details relating to all cemetery services used by members of the public, funeral directors, and sundry external parties. The CMS is also used for reporting purposes, allocation of fees to services used, monthly invoicing, and to store photographs of interment plots.
The CMS is built using MS Access (circa 2005) and SQL server database and is to be replaced.
