Overview

This RFP relates to the purchase of design fabrication and installation. The key outcomes that we want to achieve are;
• A bright, open, inviting and multi-purpose space
• Multiple means for interaction with native plant stories
• Opportunities for visitors to realise and appreciate the uniqueness of New Zealand’s plants
• Recognition of Otari’s natural and cultural histories and its core function as a botanic garden
• Support for educational opportunities at Otari
• Integrated storage which does not impede the usability of the open space of the centre

• Scope of Works

• Seek visitor and user inputs using the ‘double diamond’ method or similar
• Create a light and inviting space for information and learning
• Include increased storage for use by the Trust, Hosts and educators
• Interpretation resources encompass both interactive experiences and digital access to resources for children, families and casual visitors
• Floor surfaces are to have ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ learning/work areas
• The main body of the room is to be able to be used for schools and for meetings. Any display components within the body of the room must be easily demounted and storable
• Some display units are to be securable to prevent interference and theft
• All display units are to be modular, simple to change out and reconfigurable
• Other display units can be open topped interactive tables eg leaves, seeds, bird nests, forest duff etc
• Create display space for short term rotations of project or promotional displays
• Interpretation can extend to the exterior of the building including a possible relief model of OWB’s topography
• Theming should be evocative of Otari’s role in the display and conservation of New Zealand’s native plant species
• Permanent displays which incorporate Māori history, European history and the natural history of the site
• Reference to the global purpose of modern botanic of gardens (Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, Botanic Gardens Conservation International )
• The role of the Otari-Wilton’s Bush Trust and promotion of other stakeholder groups
• Please refer appendix 4 for current layout and photographs, noting the parameters of the space will remain unchanged and the toilet facilities retained
• We are proposing to replace a number of corrugated iron panels with clear light to improve natural light in the room and, with advice from the contractor arrange for the repainting of the walls and space
• Also please refer appendix 5 for some high level thou
