The Basin Reserve Trust has been developed to represent the main stakeholders of the site being WCC, Wellington Cricket and NZ Cricket.
Together the Trust has developed a 25-year vision for the future of the Basin Reserve, called the Basin Reserve Masterplan . The redevelopment of the Museum Stand is a core pillar of this masterplan.
In 1982 the building was designated a Category 2 Heritage Building and in 1998 the entire Basin Reserve was listed a Heritage Area.
In 2012 the Museum Stand was declared to be an Earthquake Prone building, due to concerns around the roof structure and closed for providing spectator seating. As an earthquake prone building and, as such, the building is required to either be seismically strengthened to at least 34% of the New Building Standard or demolished by 2022.
Wellington City Council will be releasing a RFT to undertake the construction work on the Museum Stand within the Basin Reserve . The Museum Stand project consists of two distinct aspects for the construction works,being structural strengthening to result in the Stand achieving 67% of the NBS and external and interior refurbishment to sufficient for current building code and the restoration of heritage elements.
The Council will be releasing the RFT next week for this project.
