Overview

Waikato Regional Council invites tenders for a suitable operator to operate its dumb barge, the Tamahere 94. The council's barge is mostly used for council's work on the Waikato River. It is also hired out by other agencies for work they wish to carry out on their structures. The barge is a 25 metre long by 7 metre wide floating platform with a maximum payload of approximately 100 tonne. The type of work includes moving the barge to a new location, debris removal from the main channel, tree work on existing structures and construction. Work undertaken for other agencies and organisations can include construction of water intake structures, pile driving, private erosion control works, installation of moorings, bridge maintenance etc.

The existing barge operation includes the use of two 20 tonne hydraulic excavators, one to control the barge, and the second one to undertake the work required. The contractor provides the plant, machinery and operators required to complete the various work tasks. Other plant or machinery provided by the contractor includes chainsaws, steel cutting and welding equipment.

The contract period is 1 October 2014 to 30 June 2017.
