Overview

The Te Huia service is a key interregional public transport project identified in the Waikato Regional Land Transport Plan (RLTP) and Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP) that enables the region to achieve its long-term strategic goal of providing an efficient and reliable public transport connection between Hamilton and Auckland.

The increased Metro train service frequency resulting from the City Rail Link and Papakura to Pukekohe Electrification Upgrade Projects present some issues in terms of the Te Huia service in terms of access to the network and stations.

Waikato Regional Council is looking for a proposal which considers the key rail infrastructure/network risks and constraints to ascertain if Te Huia’s level of service can be maintained post these major projects and if this is not possible, identifying feasible rail solutions that can enable this to happen.
