Overview

Waikato Regional Council invites tenders from Council Biosecurity Pre-Approved Contractors to undertake rat and possum control in the following Hamilton Halo Project (Project Halo) operational sectors:

Bridal Veil Falls Sector: 254 ha and 4 landowners
Old Mountain Rd Hope Bush Sector: 167 ha and 2 landowners
Old Mountain Rd Johnstone Sector: 195 ha and 4 landowners

Under Project Halo, sites receive pest control on a ‘three years on - two years off’ basis. The Hope Bush, Johnstone and Bridal Veil Falls sectors have just come out of the two year rest phase and will receive annual control for the next three years. The Council invites tenders for one or more sectors within the Operational Area. The contract period for each of these sectors is for 2017 ONLY, covering the FIRST year of the expected three year 2017-2019 control period in the Hope Bush, Johnstone and Bridal Veil Falls sectors.

The contract is performance based, requiring a 5% mean RTI for rats and a 5% mean RTC or less for possums (with no one line to exceed 3 possums).

The Department of Conservation (DOC) is a key partner in the Hamilton Halo Project. Two sectors in this RFT are managed privately (Old Mountain Road – Johnstone and Hope Bush) with the remaining sector, Bridal Veil Falls, involving a mix of privately owned and DOC-managed land.

Contractors not yet preapproved with the Council can contact Chris Monk on 0800 800 401 for details on how to become preapproved for future tender opportunities.
