Overview

Waikato Regional Council invites tenders from Council Biosecurity Pre-Approved Contractors to undertake possum control in the following Priority Possum Control Areas (PPCAs):

Maintenance possum control in the Mt. Karioi North PPCA - Approximately 675 hectares and 58 landowners
Maintenance possum control in the Mt. Karioi South PPCA - Approximately 1,983 hectares and 43 landowners

The Mount Karioi North PPCA consists of steep to rolling native forest and farmland. The majority of farmland in the area is beef however, an organic farm is present. The boundary
goes from the edges of Mt Karioi public conservation land down to the coast with Whaanaga Rd dissecting the PPCA. Therefore the habitat within the PPCA ranges from native forest, bush pasture margin and coastal. The PPCA is located on the northern side of Mt. Karioi and roughly 6km from Raglan Township.

The Mount Karioi South PPCA is located on the southern side of Mt. Karioi. The boundary runs from the slopes of Mt. Karioi, southwards and encompasses Ruapuke Rd. The majority of the land within the PPCA is farmland with some DOC forest. Most farmland is dry and dairy stock with only one farm stocking sheep. There is patchy possum habitat throughout the entire PPCA.

Contractors not yet preapproved with the Council can contact Chris Monk on 0800 800 401 for details on how to become preapproved for future tender opportunities.
