Overview
The design and construction of a new bridge over the Kakanui River. The Kakanui River bridge on Waianakarua Rd is a 176m, 16 span, timber bridge that services as a connection between two parts of Kakanui Town, and as a rural Primary Collector Road for Waitaki District. This route and bridge is a resilience route for periods when State Highway 1 is closed at Maheno. The bridge has a heavy commercial vehicle weight and speed restriction.
