Council is looking to upgrade three mixed-use rural water supply schemes to meet the latest requirements of the Drinking Water Standards for New Zealand and the Acceptable Solutions requirements published by Taumata Arowai in September 2025.
The three schemes are:
Cannington Motukaika Drinking Water Compliance Upgrade
Waihaorunga Drinking Water Intake and Plant Compliance Upgrade
Waikakahi Drinking Water Intake and Plant Compliance Upgrade (provisional)
The scope of this project is to procure the design, supply and installation of water treatment devices at the point of supply and, where required, at the raw water source to meet the latest requirements of the Drinking Water Standards
Council is looking to award a design build contract for the upgrade of all three schemes and may choose to award a separate contract for the supply of end-point treatment devices, depending on responses received.
The scope includes commissioning requirements and the on-going supply of all parts and consumables for the treatment devices selected. Councils in-house staff will operate the schemes.
Council has identified three possible options for the upgrades, which need to be tested with the Contractor. The options are as follows:
-Install an end-point treatment system for each customer. No treatment upgrade at the source.
-Where treatment is upgraded at the source of supply and an end-point treatment system is installed for the customer.
-Only upgrade the water supply treatment at the source of supply. If this is the case, then no longer classified as mixed-use rural supply, otherwise end-point treatment is mandatory (an alternative solution).
