Overview

The University of Waikato is planning internal refurbishment, external recladding & solar shading, and external landscaping works to the Waikato Management School building (MSB) located on the main Hamilton Campus.

The MSB is a multi-storey building consisting of five floors which will remain occupied in the areas not directly impacted by the internal refurbishment construction zone. The building is sited on a sloping topography which descends from the Hillcrest Road down to the lower levels of the Gate 10 car park. External claddings are generally long run light weight steel to roofs and direct fixed cementitious sheet to walls and spandrels.

Construction is proposed to occur in 4No. Phases with Phases 1 and 2 only being specific to this EOI. (Refer to attached Appendices A, B, C, & D.) Phases 1 and 2 are envisioned to commence mid November 2019. The construction phases can be generally described as follows:

Phase 1 - MSB Level 1 Interior Refurbishment Works and MSB Level 1 External Entry Civil and Landscaping works. This phase of work will include for the internal refurbishment of a large foyer area and the alterations and refurbishment of 2No. Lecture theatres. Hard landscaping and re-roofing works adjacent to foyer entrance are also included. To minimise the impact on the core teaching business of the University it is critical that this phase of works is completed between the dates of mid Nov 2019 – mid February 2020.

Phase 2 – MSB Exterior Envelope Recladding and Solar Shade Works – Northern Elevation only.
This phase of work will include for the removal of the existing cementitious wall claddings and thereafter the installation of aluminium (proposed only) type panel cladding to the Northern elevation only. External solar shading to the northern elevation will also be included and will require integration with the external cladding works. To capitalise on the “WOW” factor and approved amenity being made available to students through the completion of Phase 1 by mid-February 2020 there would be a strong preference for Phase 2 to be constructed simultaneously with Phase 1.
