The University of Otago is the preeminent facility in New Zealand offering services in trace element isotope analysis. Moreover, the University of Otago is one of only several institutions worldwide with expertise in some specialised trace element isotope systems, contributing to its excellent international reputation.

The Centre For Trace Element Analysis requires a ‘multiple-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer’ (MC-ICPMS) to replace the existing instrument (Nu Plasma-HR MC-ICP-MS) that has deteriorated to the point that it is no longer possible to perform some critical measurements. The new instrument must reflect the technological innovations over the past 15 years.
