Close to 20,000 people use the University Campus grounds on any day during semester periods,
requiring continuous maintenance to minimise the risk of slips and trips. The University’s accident
and incident reporting system confirmed that in the wider context slips, trips and falls are the main
cause of reported serious harm incidents across the main Dunedin Campus. The intention of these
works upon completion is to provide improved continuity and slip resistance of the paved pedestrian
routes, more logical and direct way-finding, extend the new pallet of materials, lighting and street
furniture and add further to planting of both native and exotic species.
