Taranaki Regional Council are accepting proposals to undertake a detailed site investigation (DSI) of an 3.6 hectare site in New Plymouth. The detailed site investigation is expected to fully characterise the extent of all contamination at the site. The site is known to have been historically explored for hydrocarbons and an existing well site remains on the site. Recent drainage works exposed buried drilling mud and it is known that baches have occupied some of the site and their demolition method is unknown. The site is a wahitapu site and has an Urupa located on it. The definition of the extent of the Urupa is also required as an output of the DSI. The site has recently been returned to Maori ownership and their plan is to construct a community marae.
