This request is issued by Transpower New Zealand Limited (Transpower). Transpower's aim in this process is to seek and obtain submissions from organisations who are interested in submitting a tender for the provision of series capacitors on the Brownhill – Whakamaru (BHL-WKM) circuits using an engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) delivery model (the Contract).
Commissioned in 2012, the BHL-WKM double circuit overhead line spans 185 km from Whakamaru substation in the central North Island to Brownhill substation, approximately 9 km from Otahuhu in Auckland. It is a critical supply circuit into the Auckland and Northland regions. The overhead line was constructed for 400 kV operation (each circuit is rated for 2700 MVA) but is currently operating at 220 kV.
