Overview

Advance Notice of a contract opportunity - We will shortly be going to market
This opportunity in a nutshell

What we need
We need supplier(s) who can provide waste services for Mackenzie District Council, Timaru District Council and Waimate District Council. Waste services include kerbside collections and operation of rural drop off facilities, transfer stations, material recovery facilities, the Redruth landfill and organics processing facility. Each district intends to let its own contract covering services within its district. Suppliers can bid for one, two or three of the separate contracts.

What we don’t want
We do not want proposals from organisations who are looking to provide subcontractor services for only some components of the waste services within each district.

What’s important to us
The three councils are looking for credible providers who have the capability and experience to deliver waste services across their districts. They need to have a good track record in the delivery of the relevant services for each district that they wish to tender for.

Why should you bid?
This is a significant package of work across three districts in South Canterbury. This is a long-term contract with the ability to improve our waste minimisation outcomes through involvement from kerbside to resource recovery to landfill. The three councils are open to new practices and technology that will improve waste minimisation, make the services more efficient or improve the sustainability of the services.

A bit about us
Mackenzie District Council, Timaru District Council and Waimate District Council have a combined population of 55,500 people, with kerbside services in Timaru, Geraldine, Temuka, Pleasant Point, Twizel, Tekapo, Fairlie, Albury and Waimate.

Interested? What’s next?
There will be a two-stage procurement process with a mandatory Registration of Interest (ROI) followed by a Request for Proposals (RFP). We intend to release the ROI in September 2019. This is primarily an opportunity for early contractor engagement in the procurement process. We expect that the RFP will be released in early 2020. The opportunity will be advertised on the Government Electronic Tenders Service. A supplier briefing session for the RFP will be held in October 2019.
