Overview

The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) have established a joint-agency project to establish three ICT Graduate Schools in each of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The TEC is responsible for managing this procurement process on behalf of the joint agencies.

The joint agencies invite interested parties to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) to participate in the ICT Graduate Schools initiative.

The schools will bring industry and education providers together to develop innovative solutions for providing industry-focused education, and research and development built on connections between tertiary education providers and businesses. The objectives are to produce highly-skilled graduates with work-relevant skills, provide more direct pathways from education into employment, and help grow New Zealand’s ICT talent and knowledge to support firm growth, innovation and productivity.

The schools are expected to attract top student, academic and industry talent and focus on producing graduates with high-level ICT and complementary skills (i.e. other technical, enterprise and soft skills) that employers value. We expect that the schools will offer a range of provision and will develop new and innovative courses and qualifications.

The ICT Graduate Schools will be established and operated via collaborative partnerships formed between Tertiary Education Organisations (TEOs) and relevant businesses - i.e. businesses that employ ICT graduates and have a significant interest in the development of high-level ICT skills.

Interested organisations (both TEOs and interested businesses) are invited to attend a briefing session to hear about the ICT Graduate Schools initiative and this EOI process. Briefing sessions will be held in each of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in early October. (Details and RSVP requirements are set out in the invitation document.)

This invitation to submit EOI is the first of a two-stage procurement process. The TEC will assess EOI and select a shortlist of respondents who will be invited to submit detailed proposals to establish and operate an ICT Graduate School in one or more of the nominated locations.
