Overview

Southland District Council is looking for Suppliers who can complete vegetation clearing over approximately 2.7 hectares at the old gun club site, Airport Road, Stewart Island.
Note this site is mostly regenerated forestation and being a “Hail Site” no in-situ material to leave the site.
Scope of works would include:
• Vegetation clearance for approximately a 3-hectare site.
• Clearance of bush (mostly regenerated forestation) including roots, to prepare the ground ready for the solar energy install.
• The removal and cutting to manageable lengths of any trees deemed suitable for firewood. This timber may leave the site for local supply.
• Root raking of stumps, chipping and mulching of the vegetation for disposal onsite. Locations for respreading and or windrowing of this material is to be confirmed.
Note: There is to be no burying or burning of vegetation waste.
• Prepare the proposed site perimeter for the installation of fencing, approximately 3m wide.
• Install deer fencing (6” netting and timber posts) along the prepared site perimeters.
• Install double deer gates at the site access point on Airport Road.
Note: For information only, there is a fencer established on the island that contractors may wish to engage with.
• A company with robust health and safety systems that are or will be willing to sign onto the Southland District Council’s prepared contractor’s agreement register.
• The works are required to be completed by 30 June 2026.
Note: No work will be allowed to commence prior to the resource consent being granted for the site. The client has this in progress currently, should this be delayed beyond expectations the Contract programme would be revised in consultation with the successful contractor.
