As a component of the Otago Regional Council’s (ORC) State of the Environment monitoring, annual benthic macroinvertebrate monitoring and monthly periphyton sample collection is undertaken by Otago Regional Council. The processing and reporting component of the programme is undertaken externally.

Otago Regional Council requires a credible laboratory to undertake the following processing and reporting:
1. Macroinvertebrate monitoring (107 sites annually - minimum)
2. Periphyton monitoring (33 sites monthly - maximum)
