Overview

The Otago Regional Council Engineering Rivers team is seeking to appoint experienced and competent contractors to undertake river maintenance works on both a programmed and reactive basis. The Otago region will be divided into three defined areas as specified below. The intended outcome is for the successful contractor(s) to maintain various river channels within one or more specified areas by maintaining flow capacity, managing vegetation and mitigating erosion.

The scope of works will include, but is not limited to:

Vegetation removal (Mechanical)
Vegetation removal (Chemical)
Channel clearing
Channel reshaping
Redistribution and/or extraction of alluvium
Bank shaping, reinstating & stabilisation
Planting
Other works, including reporting associated with compliance regulations, health & safety & contract management

The work is expected to be divided into three geographical areas. Contractors are invited to submit bids for one, two, or all of the areas.

Clutha
Waitaki & Dunedin (excluding urban Dunedin)
Central Otago, Queenstown & Wanaka

It is anticipated that the successful contractor may need to subcontract a portion of the works to specialised local suppliers.

It is expected that the duration of the contract will initially be set for a limited term, with potential options for extension i.e. 1+1+1 or 2+1.

This is only a future procurement opportunity to provide a heads-up to the market.

Otago Regional Council invites interested contractors to attend a Q&A session (dates & method yet to be confirmed). To register your interest, please contact engineering.procurement@orc.govt.nz by 17:00 13/06/2025. We will reply with a feedback form.
