This RFT follows the NOI that was released on 25 May 2026.
NZTA is seeking a professional services supplier to develop the Detailed Design for the Pekatahi Bridge Replacement on SH2.
Based on the current Bridge Management Plan, Pekatahi Bridge is classified as requiring replacement under NZTA structures asset management procedures. In Feb 2017 SH2 Pekatahi Bridge (near Tāneatua) was closed to completely replace the old wooden deck and train rails. Whilst this fix was effective it only prolonged the need for the bridge to be replaced.
The bridge’s unreinforced piers and shallow foundation system provide negligible resilience to seismic loading and large-scale scour, leaving the structure highly vulnerable to a significant natural hazard event. In addition, the deck exhibits significant deterioration, representing both a safety risk and an efficiency issue in relation to the National Tactical Plan (NTP). Collectively, these factors position Pekatahi Bridge at, or very near, the top of the national priority list for bridge interventions.
This procurement process seeks to efficiently onboard a supplier to deliver the design services. The tendering process will use presentations rather than traditional written submissions. Tenderers will be required to submit their presentation pack prior to delivering their presentation in-person to the TET. A purchaser nominated price will be used to give tenderers price certainty and ensure the supplier chosen is the best-for-project offering.
Electronic copies of the RFT documentation are attached to this advertisement.
