This Notice of Information (NOI) is to provide project information ahead of the Request for Tender (RFT) which is intended to be advertised in late August 2023. The contract commencement date is to be nominated by the contractor and will be heavily influenced by the lead time for supply of the plywood deck panels, with the construction period expected to take 30 working days and be completed before April/May 2024.
This NOI is provided as an early indication only of the project scope and will not form part of any future tender documents or contract documents.
The physical works contract includes replacement of the existing timber deck with a new plywood panel deck, installation of new semi-rigid TL4 thrie-beam guardrail over the bridge, pavement reinstatement and surfacing works. Miscellaneous structural maintenance may also be included to the contract to utilise the temporary access installed for the works.
Waitakaruru Canal Bridge (Incr.) BSN057 was constructed in 1981 and carries eastbound traffic on SH25 over the Waitakaruru Canal approximately 25km west of Thames. The single lane bridge is a 36m long single span steel through-truss with an existing nail laminated 250mm thick timber deck. The existing deck has reached the end of its life and requires replacement. The bridge is located adjacent to another single lane bridge which carries the westbound traffic. During construction it is anticipated a full closure of the eastbound bridge will be required, with all traffic diverted across the single lane westbound bridge.
Key points are -
1. The project is anticipated to cost in the order of $1M.
2. Contractors must be pre-qualified to “Bridge Construction – Level B (3B)” and have experience with timber decks. Contractor partnering to grow local specialist contractor capability is encouraged.
3. Waka Kotahi have mandated the use of sustainable timber for this project, with the requirement to supply and construct structural timber which has compliance with the Forrest Stewardship Council (FSC), or Programme for the Endorsement of Forrest Certification (PEFC) certified sustainable timber.
This is NOT the commencement of a tender process or a registration of interest to tender.
