Overview

This Notice of Information (NOI) is to provide project information ahead of the Request for Tender (RFT) which will likely be advertised in late-October 2022.

The contract commencement date will likely be in February 2023, with construction works anticipated to be completed around April/May 2023.

This NOI is provided as an early indication only of the project scope and will not form part of any future tender documents or contract documents.

The physical works contract is for scour protection works at SH5 Utuhina Stream Bridge (BSN 505 & 506) located within the Rotorua urban area and 100m north of the Pukuatua Street (SH30A/SH5) intersection. Both bridges are three-span structures supported by piled abutment walls and piers. The bridges carry four lanes of traffic.

The original bridge (BSN505 increasing direction) was constructed in 1955 and widened with a second bridge (BSN506 decreasing direction) on the upstream side in 1967. Ongoing scour at the eastern abutment (Abutment D) of both bridges has exposed the abutment piles, which are currently vulnerable to further erosion and scour damage.

The proposed works include installation of 12m long (ArcelorMittal PU32 S320) sheet piles behind the eastern abutment from the approach pavement above, concrete works, services protection and reinstatement of affected pavement and footpath areas. The wall thickness of the sheet pile specified is based on expected corrosion rates at this location and includes sufficient allowance for sacrificial material thickness. Current cost estimates (indicative) for the physical works are approximately $600-700k.

Contractors must be pre-qualified to “Bridge Construction – Level 3C and/or Construction – Level 4C”. Contractor partnering to grow local supplier and subcontractor capability is encouraged, in accordance with the NZ Government’s Broader Outcomes.

Please note, this is NOT the commencement of a tender process or a registration of interest to tender.
