This Notice of Information (NOI) is to provide project information ahead of the Request for Tender which will be advertised in mid-September 2022. The anticipated contract commencement date will be early December 2022.
This NOI is provided as an early indication only of the project scope and will not form part of any future tender documents or contract documents.
The contract is for the live load strengthening of two state highway bridges within the Waikato Region - SH3 Mangapiko Stream Bridge (BSN 256) and SH39 Mangati Stream Bridge (BSN 520). The contract works also include unloading of unbalanced soil pressure on a bridge pier at SH3 Mangapiko Stream Bridge.
Mangapiko Stream Bridge is located at route position 16/9.61 and carries SH3 over the Mangapiko Stream in Te Awamutu. Constructed circa 1941, the 61m long bridge consists of a two lane, 4-span reinforced concrete T-beam superstructure with a cast in-situ deck. Mangati Stream Bridge is located at route position 43/8.98 to the south of Pirongia Township and carries SH39 over Mangati Stream. The construction date is not known; however, the detailing is comparable with 1930’s and 1940’s construction. The 27m long bridge consists of a two lane, 3-span reinforced concrete T-beam superstructure with a cast in-situ deck.
The Contract Works include the fabrication and installation of steel shear brackets at both bridges, and concrete repairs. Additionally, the works at SH3 Mangapiko Stream Bridge include excavation to remove soil from a bridge pier whilst the works at SH39 Mangati Stream Bridge include supply and installation of external post tensioning system beneath the main stream span.
Key points are:
1. The SH3 Mangapiko Stream Bridge works (Separable Portion 1) are anticipated to cost in the order of $800,000.
2. The SH39 Mangati Stream Bridge works (Separable Portion 2) are anticipated to cost in the order of $600,000.
3. Contractors must be pre-qualified to “Bridge Construction – Level C (3C)”. Contractor partnering to grow local specialist contractor capability is encouraged.
