The New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology was established by legislation on 1 April 2020. It is still in its establishment phase, and consists of 16 former polytechnics currently set up as subsidiaries and one national council, with a supporting head office function. Its establishment is part of the Reforms of Vocational Education (RoVE).
