Fire and Emergency New Zealand are now part of the emergency medical response framework and deliver care to its own personnel and members of the public at 1st aid, medical co-response and 1st response levels of care.
Other than defibrillation the organisation does not have a nationally standardised emergency medical response package. The development of this package specifically targets the appropriate equipment and consumables for delivery of 1st aid and medical co-response care. Note: 1st response is managed and supplied through St John ambulance.
What has been developed, in conjunction with St John ambulance, the primary New Zealand prehospital care provider, as a fully integrated medical response pack that carries trauma supplies, a full range of basic life support, oxygen therapy and resuscitation/airway equipment and medical oxygen, in a single package.
Fire and emergency incident ground environments are very harsh and expose equipment to all kinds of weather and other liquid and substances. Therefore, the kit carrying equipment in this environment needs to be very hard wearing, easily carried/deployed, comprehensive, water resistant, visible and laid out in such a way that all its contents can be rapidly located and deployed.
Approx. 960 units initially and then ongoing replacements.
