Overview

Marshall Islands Renewable Energy Advisor

• Up to 3-year assignment, first 12-months residential in Majuro, Marshall Islands (RMI)
• Contributes to RMI transition to a renewable energy future and achievement of climate change goals
• New Zealand Government assistance programme
• Commencement in January 2018

The New Zealand Government is partnering with the Government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) to assist them in achieving their ambitious climate change and renewable energy goals, particularly through supporting the development and implementation of a strategic roadmap for the RMI energy sector. The RMI is a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) and the founder of the “High Ambition Coalition”. The RMI is both concerned about the impacts of climate change on its country and people, and committed to significant and rapid cuts in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Key objectives of this role are to:

• Communicate and build a common vision for the RMI’s transition to renewable energy across RMI Government and external partners, through coordinating and sharing information about the energy roadmap, energy policy and investments;
• Contribute to the successful development and implementation of the RMI long-term energy roadmap and energy sector policies and programmes; and
• Ensure the effective functioning of the National Til E Til Eo Committee (charged with developing the energy roadmap and developing an approach for the RMI to meet their overall Nationally Determined Contribution) through high-quality secretariat support.

The initial assignment will be full-time for 12-months residential in Majuro. It is expected that the assignment will be extended for up to a further 24-months subject to contractor performance, RMI future requirements and budget approval.
