Overview

The New Zealand Aid Programme, acting for and on behalf of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), is helping AECOM Services Pty Ltd work with the Inland Revenue Division (SI IRD) of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury (MOFT) in the Solomon Islands. Since 2005 New Zealand has supported the Inland Revenue Division (SI IRD) of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury (MOFT) through seconded public servants and short and long-term contractors. The purpose of this support is to increase tax compliance in the Solomon Islands, and expand and protect the nation’s revenue base. Much of this support has been provided through a twinning relationship with the New Zealand Inland Revenue Department (NZ IRD).

Part of the programme Support to Solomon Islands Inland Revenue Division has included the secondment or contracting of an expatriate adviser to the role of Commissioner for Inland Revenue (CIR). After ten years of New Zealand engagement, MOFT has appointed a local CIR to SI IRD who will commence duties in November 2016. The Lead Adviser will have a key role in mentoring the new CIR into their role and supporting the SI IRD senior management team to operationalize their new strategic plan, drawing on recommendations from recent assessments including Business Process Mapping, the Constraints Analysis and the Training Needs Analysis.
