Overview

Antarctica New Zealand uses helicopters to move passengers and cargo within Antarctica during the southern summer season, predominantly based out of Scott Base/McMurdo Station.

Generally, these passengers are either scientists conducting fieldwork or Scott Base staff undertaking maintenance and support of field-based facilities.

On occasion Antarctica New Zealand also conducts field campaigns that require helicopter support away from Scott Base/McMurdo Station. These are usually in cooperation with other National Antarctic Programs based in the Ross Sea region. These may not always require support from Antarctica New Zealand’s incumbent helicopter services provider.

Our existing helicopter services contract expires in 2025, and we are looking to contract a supplier to provide continuity of service from the summer season beginning October 2025.
