Overview

This project is a follow-on from the Stage 1 works which are enabling works for the Otiria-Waiharakeke Spillway. The purpose of the Stage 2 works is to build a new three span concrete bridge on the western side of the existing T04 Pokapu Road Bridge. This longer and higher new bridge will enable a new spillway to flow below the bridge.

Work consists of a number of overall tasks:

Realign existing Pokapu Road to the west of its existing alignment

With new approach ramps on both the northern and southern sides of the bridge.

Gabion basket wall on the south-eastern approach to contain fill from existing spillway.

Formation of access ramp for maintenance purposes and access to a neighbouring property, on the northern end of the existing T04 Pokapu Road Bridge.

New entrance for the KiwiRail Logging Yard.

Construct new three span concrete bridge, with concrete piles at abutments and piers into basalt rock.

Demolition of the existing T04 Pokapu Road Bridge and downstream old bridge abutments and piers, once the new alignment is operational.
