Overview

Situated at the entrance to Whangarei Harbour 140 km from central Auckland, Northport,s a multi-purpose facility is positioned to support economic growth in both Northland and Auckland.

Along with a natural deep-water channel, one of Northports most significant advantage is that they have more space at their disposal than any other port in New Zealand. The port itself has a potential footprint of 75 hectares and close to 700 hectares of designated port and commercially-zoned land nearby, all with easy access to the entire upper North Island through the State Highway network. Northport has initiated an early engagement public consultation process on its vision for growth and has already commissioned a number of background documents (including geotech, noise, etc.) that will support and inform this vision.

Northland Inc is contributing to this process by commissioning an independent economic impact analysis. Northport has undertaken strategic planning of its future growth opportunities and has worked through a process to come to a short list of the preferred future growth scenarios. The economic impact analysis will be designed to estimate the likely economic impacts (direct, indirect, induced and catalytic) of the proposal for growth throughout the various stages of its development and across the different options being considered for development. The economic impact analysis will influence the final decision on which option to pursue, alongside the community and stakeholder engagement processes.
