The NIWA Future Property Programme involves the development of a new NIWA site in Hamilton, and the redevelopment of an existing site in Wellington. NIWA Hamilton is likely to be the first of NIWA’s sites to commence construction. The development involves construction of new buildings and experimentation facilities on a new site located at the University of Waikato campus.
The 9,600m2 site redevelopment comprises:
- Construction of a new two storey 4,500m2 building to accommodate laboratories and visitor facilities on the ground floor, and office workspace on level 1
- Construction of a new 1,200m2 storage and workshop building to store heavy equipment, for mobilisation of fieldwork, and to provide covered boat storage
- Freestanding chemical store building, outdoor experimentation facilities and parking / hardstanding.
This ROI relates to the shortlisting of 3 – 4 suitably qualified main contractors to tender for the NIWA Hamilton development work.
