Overview

Masterton District Council are seeking a suitable, qualified Contractor who can undertake the Nikau Heights Reservoir Renewal Construction (the Works). The Works are expected to commence in May 2026 and will involve:

- Demolition and/or removal of existing timber tanks, redundant pipework, fencing, trees and other vegetation.

- Civil work including topsoil stripping, site trimming and leveling, ground improvement via 1m deep hardfill base, pre-cast valve manhole, permeable pavement installation.

- Construction of new reinforced concrete tank foundations and valve pads.

- Integration with MDC’s nominated tank installer, for the construction and commissioning of three 500 kL galvanized steel tanks with new liners, pipe connections, and pipe supports (supplied by MDC).

- Supply and installation of associated stainless steel (SS) and polyethylene (PE) pipework, valves, and flow meters.

- Integration with the existing valve chamber, rising main, transmission main and drainage/scour outlet including enabling works to demolish and replace valve chamber roof, if required.

- Integration with MDC electrical and control installation.

- All testing, sterilisation, commissioning and handover documentation.

MDC is looking for providers who have a sound methodology for the Works and will demonstrate well thought-out planning for key aspects such as working in a live potable water environment, staging and cut-in works to minimise disruption and risks to water users; an excellent track record with good referees; and a project team with the right experience.

We intend to go to market with a single stage RFT procurement process in late January 2026, with responses expected at the end of February. The opportunity will be advertised on the Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS). When the documents have been released to the market, we will hold a supplier briefing and site visit in Masterton within one week of the release of the documents.

To indicate your interest in this opportunity, please email Laura Maclean with your company details by 22 January 2026.
