COVID-19 COMMERCIAL LEASE DISPUTE SERVICES UPDATE:
In June 2020, the Government announced temporary measures to be enacted to specifically support small New Zealand businesses through the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. This included funding to subsidise arbitration for commercial lease rent disputes.
On 30 July 2020, the Government issued a Press Release that announced funding would now also cover mediation. The arbitration and mediation services are for resolving rent disputes for commercial leases and mortgages during COVID-19.
SERVICES ARE NOW AVAILABLE:
The Ministry negotiated with Suppliers to ensure services were available by late September 2020. The services are time and fund-limited, and will be available until March 2021. Use of the services by participants is voluntary.
I’M INTERESTED IN DELIVERING THE COVID-19 COMMERCIAL LEASE DISPUTE SERVICES:
The Ministry will be monitoring the service uptake and where there is a significantly high uptake of the COVID-19 Commercial Lease Dispute Services, the Ministry may look to run an application process for other interested suppliers at a later date.
This will be a demand-driven approach and will only take place if there is a high service need.
